Rest in the Lord

What does it mean to rest in the Lord?

When I had a word from God recently to “Rest and all will be well”, I felt it was a three part instruction. To rest in God – mind, body and spirit.

While this might sound easy and straight forward, I began to ponder on just how I was to rest?

So what does a 21st century gal do when she has a question (after praying of course!)…she googles it?? Haha

So here is what came up as the first response:

It is rest that heals and makes you whole.

Rest and peace are synonymous, then they quoted Isaiah 26:3&4:

“You (God) will keep in perfect peace her whose mind is steadfast, because she trusts in You! Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord, the Lord, is the Rock eternal”.

Wow! These two verses are spot on with what God has been encouraging me to do for quite a while now…
Trust Him! Proverbs 3:5&6 sums it up perfectly!

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.”

I love how God’s word works together to keep us on track!

My next question is, how to rest in God on a physical level?

Are you ready to join a community like no other?

We’ve created a sisterhood of Christian women in business who are completely in love with God and encourage each other on a daily basis with their businesses.

If you’re after some Godly support as you grow your business…

I believe it does include not overworking, to take time to rest our body when we are sick, overwhelmed or just down right tired. Who are we trying to impress anyway, pushing through when we are exhausted?

But the physical rest here may also mean taking the burdens to God so that we can have physical rest. As Jesus instructed in Matthew 11:28-30, we are to come to Him, all who are weary and burdened, and He will give us rest.

The scripture then offers the truth and hope of Jesus giving us rest for our soul as we take on His yoke and we learn from Him. This is key to resting the body, as we rest the soul in Jesus, the lover of our soul.

My last offering for resting in God comes from the beautiful imagery of the vine and the branches.

My spirit yearns for this resting with my Heavenly Father, like a baby being cradled in the father’s arms. I know with the vine and the branches there are multiple levels, but if we can’t trust The Gardener and the Vine then how can we begin to ‘rest’ in them? (John 15:1-12)

Jesus’ final instruction in the analogy of the Vine and the Branches states that He is telling us this analogy so that His joy may be in us and that our joy may be complete! What a precious gift of Joy from Jesus himself! Priceless!!!

As Mother Theresa once said “Joy is prayer. Joy is strength. Joy is love. Joy is a net of love by which you can catch souls. God loves a cheerful giver. One gives most who gives with joy. The best way to show gratitude to God and people is to accept everything with joy. A joyful heart is the normal result of a heart burning with love. Never let anything so fill you with sorrow as to make you forget the joy of Christ risen. This I tell my sisters. This I tell you.”

So I encourage you my sister in Christ, rest in God, and be in Joy!

This is my prayer for you today!
