I am someone who likes to spend time with people and sharing with them about God’s goodness and Hope. My heart is to lead people to experience Christ so that they may have freedom. God has evidently been by my side from when I was bullied at school and through life’s challenges. I have been married for 25 years, raised (raising) 6 children, helped in my husband’s business for the first couple of years and started my first business in 2007 operating a coffee van. In 2015 I moved on to where I am now running my own coffee shop in a shopping centre. My shop is the second store of a new franchise called Gus Coffee. The Franchisor is a Christian as well as our Roasters, and farmers. I believe God is using this business to reach people.
If I had to start over I would make sure to read the contracts and lease agreements with a better understanding, less emotion behind my decision making. Rushed decisions can dig a bigger problem later.
My biggest mind transformation was when I realized that no matter how hard I tried to work out what was wrong in my business, after the first year, it was found only by seeking God and the humbling of my heart. Then all of a sudden I had understanding one day and fixed the problems. I learnt that God had to be sought first and to walk not ‘leaning on my own understanding’.
My advice to anyone about to start in this industry is to have every system in place and then refine it as you learn more. Give yourself pleanty of extra cash flow, make room in your KPIs for the unexpected expenses. The hospitality industry involves a lot of socializing with people and never letting others around you know you are feeing out of it or down, so a desire to spend time giving of yourself and giving out is essential ☺️
